Dr. Joe Hobbs (Co-Director of TVI) attended The First International Workshop to Explore Research Frontiers through Partnerships in the Lower Mekong Basin organized in Laurel, Maryland on Sep. 25 & 26. At the workshop, Dr. Joe Hobbs delivered a presentation on “The role of social scientists in understanding environmental issues”.

Dr. Mark Morgan (active member of TVI) accompanied by Kim Pham (TVI Graduate Assistant) attended The Second International Workshop to Explore Research Frontiers through Partnership in the Lower Mekong Basin and The Mekong Natural History Museum, organized in Can Tho, Vietnam from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1. The workshops, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, convened US researchers who are already engaged in, or interested in developing, research partnerships in the Lower Mekong Basin region (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar).

Dr. Morgan also attended the 9th U.S. - Vietnam Science and Technology Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) organized in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from Dec. 2 to Dec. 4. Delegates at the meeting reviewed cooperation in science and technology projects and discussed plans for the coming years. The discussion topics included medical sciences and health, agriculture, education and research exchange, preservation and environmental sciences, hydrometeorology, and storm warning. As one of a few academic institutions from the US, MU has been an active participant over the past few years in this bi-lateral planning activity.
